Replacement unit for Spin Doctor. 8/9 Speed Shimano HG type spline compatible.

Important Tech Notice:
  • Spin Doctor rear hubs use sealed cartridge bearings as the MAIN load carrying bearings for the hub, however, the Freewheel mechanism bearings (that are only operating when you are freewheeling) are a non adjustable looseball type.

    • Please consider that they can (and should) be lubricated regularly to maximise performance and durability.

    • Further, Halo do not advise to run chains tight when using a cassette hub for Single Speed type use, as this will cause undue strain on the freewheel bearings, that are only designed to operate under minimal chain load from sprung gear mechanisms.

    • Lube Note: The looseball system Freehub bearings and pawl mechanism on Pre 2007 hubs can easily be lubricated with thick oil or, with grease using a Morningstar Tooling developed Halo grease/lube injector tool to give a positive performance and an extended life. Remove Cassette lockring and carefully pull-off freehub righthand seal to expose the cartridge bearing.

      To Oil;
      1) Lay the wheel down, with freehub facing up.
      2) Tip at about 20-30 degrees.
      3) Apply approx 5 drops drops of thick grade oil to the inside edge of the black body whilst gently rotating. (Do not use an excess of oil, as this could leak out later and effect your brake performance)
      This oil should then be able to run down inside the small gap between the black body and the main body.
      Continue rotating and, eventually you should hear a marked difference in the pawl noise as the oil enters the inside of the pawl mechanism area.
      Note: As far as frequency of lubrication goes, this should be carried out pretty much inline with lubricating your chain.

      To Grease;
      Push-in the Freehub injector tool into the end of the freehub and apply grease into the tool via a grease gun, until you can see a small amount grease purging out of the backside of the freehub.
      Grease injection will provide longer lasting lubrication.

      Note:
      New series Spin Doctor rear freehubs have genuine Finish Line TFG37 grease packed inside, plus a lube hole concealed under the cassette cogs. To lube the pawls and bearings, simply remove the cassette cogs and insert a grease gun pointed nozzle and squeeze ! (no need to pull-off hub end seals.)

Occasionally, without notice, manufacturers change product design and/or specifications.
