NRC X Series

In 1947 a piloted plane exceeded the speed of sound in horizontal flight for the first time ever. Its name was X-1. This was the inspiration for the NRC X-Series: breaking the barriers. The technical barrier: the use of sophisticated materials delivers the best quality with regards to the lenses, and to amplify the field of vision. The frame then became lighter with an adjustable bridge to fit any face, and finally the arms were fitted with removable rubber tips allowing the rider the option to make his glasses even lighter.

The biggest challenge for NRC, however, was a common problem associated with designing glasses: the difference in thinking between the designer and the end user. The design for the NRC X-Series is based entirely on dialogue with amateur cyclists, and the design phase, which is usually the start of the production process was developed in line with required features identified by those who have to encounter the problems in real life.

NRC are proud to present their eyewear which they have designed and developed entirely with your help.

ALPE D’HUEZ

The climb up the mountain involves an increase in altitude of about 1100 metres (from 740 to 1850 metres), over a distance of 14 km and with an average gradient of almost 8%. Coppi was the first victor in this stage in 1952, the year when he won the Tour, while Marco Pantani achieved the record time for this ascent (37' 35”).

ANGLIRU

1570 metres in altitude, located in the Riosa region of Spain. Since 1999, this area has gained international fame due to the fact that it has often featured in the hardest stages of the Vuelta a España: one of the three major stage races on the world cycling scene.

GAVIA

A mountain pass that connects the Gavia Valley and high Camonica Valley. A distance of 17.3 kilometers which has a gradient of 16% average. This has been “Cima Coppi” 7 times and the setting of some heroic ascents with weather conditions proving too extreme for many riders, but not for all.

STELVIO

Featuring in the Giro for the first time in 1953, this was the setting for one of the last great feats of Fausto Coppi, at the age of thirty-four. During the penultimate stage, from Bolzano to Bormio, the champion pulled away from the leader, the Swiss rider Hugo Koblet, taking the Maglia Rosa and winning his fifth and final Giro.

ZONCOLAN

Mount Zoncolan has gained the nickname of the “Kaiser” among cycling fans, as the road ascending the mountain is extremely tough for any cyclist. Gradients often exceeding 15%, long straight sections and steep, narrow bends combine to make it extremely challenging, both physically and psychologically, even for well-trained cyclists.

Occasionally, without notice, manufacturers change product design and/or specifications.
