Given the higher price tag, a Cross Country carbon wheel is only really worth the investment if it offers significant improvement over the best aluminum wheel. And feedback from racers tells us it often doesn’t, thanks to poor performance in vertical compliance, which translates into difficult steering and loss of traction. So, when we engineered the Crossmax Pro Carbon, our goal was to make it significantly lighter than any aluminum wheel, but also laterally stiffer, still as impact resistant and with a decent vertical compliance. To achieve this, we pushed our exclusive Finite Element Simulation software to the limit to find a carbon lay up that would best balance light weight, impact resistance, lateral stiffness and vertical compliance in the rim. Hookless rims for compatibility We wanted the wheel to work with the most commonly used XC tire width (2.1 to 2.25), so we established that a 23mm hookless rim profile would deliver the best performance. It’s fully UST Tubeless compliant for improved traction, flat resistance and ease of use. And we’ve sealed the rim with a specifically designed rim tape. Asymmetric rims Our unique Mavic wheelsystem allowed us to fine-tune the lacing to better complement the rim characteristics. Firstly, we made the rim asymmetric to better balance spoke tension and we also decided to use 24 double butted steel spokes, crossed three on both sides, front and rear, to once again find the sweet spot between lateral stiffness and vertical compliance. At only 1470g in 27.5'' and 1510g in 29'', the Crossmax Pro Carbon comes in light – but it also answers the needs of our demanding racers, as shown by the amazing results of Team BH SR Suntour KMC, who have been regularly reaching the podium at world-class race events all season. Set up to suit you These wheels are available with our light and fast rolling Pulse Pro tires, in your choice of 2.1 or 2.25, in both 27.5 and 29''. Hubs are 6 Bolts only, but compatible with standard width dimensions (15x100 and 12x142) and Boost dimensions (15x110 and 12x148). Freewheel is standard Shimano/Sram or XD (Sram Eagle compatible). We also offer Lety 60 front wheel and offset (AI rear wheel for Cannondale bikes.
