With limited options in the 650c size, many of these cyclists ride standard 700c wheels and lose out on the increased efficiencies of a correct fitting wheel.
Smaller athletes never have to make this sacrifice again. The 404 650c Firecrest Carbon Clincher allows smaller bikes to fit smaller athletes. After all, road bikes were made in two wheel sizes – 700c and 650c – to keep handling and positioning proportional.
The 404 650c Firecrest Carbon Clincher stands at the forefront of the fit revolution while also building on the Zipp 404’s already legendary status. Its 58mm rim depth is a classic all-around performer that has carried athletes to scores of victories in triathlons, time trials, criteriums and road races. It also features two of Zipp’s most significant innovations – our proprietary Firecrest® rim shape and Carbon Clincher technology.
At the center of the 404 650c Firecrest is Zipp’s 77/177 hubset with best-in-class durability and improved bearing protection with no pre-load adjustment needed. The result is improved stiffness, durability, simplicity and versatility.
- Optimized flange geometry and spoke hole attachment pattern with Sapim® CX Sprint spokes to optimize torsional and lateral stiffness and robustness.
- Includes newly designed quick-release skewers with a wider more ergonomic handle to give more leverage for opening and closing. When closed, lever contours neatly with the frame.
- New robust hub platform with distinctive graphics.
- For those looking for a wider gear range, or tackling especially extreme terrain, an XD driver body for 177 is sold separately and easily installed to allow for more cassette options including a 10-42. The hubset is designed to swap driver bodies without re-dishing the wheel.
Precision-engineered hubs along with Firecrest technology create something special. Firecrest rims have a near-constant width from brake track to spoke bed. That shape more effectively controls airflow and the wheel’s center of pressure to result in greater aerodynamics, improved handing in crosswinds and overall ride quality. Our Carbon Clincher technology uses an exclusive resin, based on materials used in motorsports braking systems, that effectively tolerates the incredible spikes in heat caused by braking. When used with Zipp’s Tangente Platinum Pro Evo brake pads, the 404 650c Firecrest Carbon Clincher gives reliable modulation and stopping power. And for all those times you’re not on the brakes, you get the low rolling resistance and ease of use of a clincher.
Available in two decal options, the stealthy Matte Black or the distinctive Matte White decals. Each 404 650c Firecrest Carbon Clincher wheel comes with Tangente Platinum Pro Evo brake pads, Zipp Integrated Valve Extender with valve-core wrench, rim tape and quick release.
