We worked with our pro team and our fastest triathletes to develop the CX01 technology used on the CXR Ultimate 80 T. Together we found the marginal gains needed to take this from being just a wheelset, to creating a unique wheel and tire combination where the system is faster than the sum of its parts. Firstly the NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aerodynamics) defined the airfoil profiles that would offer the best possible aerodynamic performance. This set the basis of our CX01 technology, so we integrated the rim and the tire together and unified them with the CX01 Blades to perfectly match a NACA airfoil profile. As a result of this pure aerodynamic NACA profile, in some wind conditions (14 to 18° yaw angle), the wheel-system even generates forward lift and is able to accelerate on its own. CXR Ultimate 80 T doesn’t only offer the lowest possible drag, but also generates very low and stable side forces for totally predictable steering. It’s the wheel Fred Van Lierde chooses to fight the strong side winds of the Hawai Ironman even when his competitors are choosing 60mm. The CXR Ultimate tubular tire tread pattern also plays its part thanks to its ability to develop a very thin layer of air over surface of the tire. This “boundary layer” minimizes turbulence as air flows over the tire. Low friction bearings, smooth hub shapes and slender spokes complete the marginal gains and propel our most powerful road and triathlon racers to victory.
