Injured firefighters get on their bikes thanks to Cycle Solutions

A Welsh business is helping injured fire-fighters to get back on the road to recovery after donating bicycles worth more than £3000 to the Fire Fighters Charity, an organisation which helps fire-fighters injured in the line of duty, requiring support and medical care.

Cycle Solutions has generously handed over 15 state-of-the-art bicycles to the charity at the Jubilee Therapy Centre in Penrith, Cumbria, one of three residential centres currently operating across the UK that offer therapy and recuperation services to more than 13,500 fire fighters who sustain physical injury whilst carrying out their duties every year.

The Fire Fighters Charity also operates centres in Devon and West Sussex, providing pioneering treatment and support services including exercise therapy, physiotherapy and recuperation services. The bicycles will be used to help with their rehabilitation and will play a vital part in the physical rehabilitation of injured fire fighters.

Andrew Waterfield, Manager at Jubilee House said:

We would like to offer our gratitude to Cycle Solutions for this fantastic gesture. We offer a wide range of services to assist injured fire fighters, including exercise therapy, and I have no doubt that the new cycles will prove to be a valuable addition to our service. The equipment will allow individuals who are going through physical rehabilitation to keep active, and to take the next step on the road to recovery and a return to work.

It costs over £9million per year to keep the charity running, and with no Government funding, is completely reliant upon donations from the general public, the business community and the fire community.

As well as residential therapy programmes, run by a team of dedicated professionals, the Fire Fighters Charity provides physical treatment for a wide range of conditions and injuries, and offers individuals the chance to recuperate in peaceful environments in stunning countryside or coastal locations. Its pioneering new Beneficiary Support Services also offer local and remote assistance to people in need nationwide, providing solutions to real life problems.

Steve Edgell, Director, Cycle Solutions, said:

Cycle Solutions are delighted to be able to provide the Fire Fighters Charity with bicycles that will be used at the Jubilee Therapy Centre to aid with the rehabilitation of the many fire fighters who get injured each year saving the lives of members of the public. We already enjoy a great relationship with the London Fire Brigade, having supplied more than 1,400 fire fighters with bikes through our Cycle to Work scheme since last June. With this in mind, we felt that a donation to such a great cause, that will help to get injured fire fighters back to work quicker, was an obvious and very gratifying gesture to make.
